An $8M construction group saved more than $150K in a single year by planning tax before 30 June
Strategic tax planning across the group, done before 30 June rather than explained after it.
The situation
A Gold Coast construction group turning over about $8M across several entities. Profitable, busy, and paying tax the way most builders do: finding out the number in October and writing the cheque. Each entity was treated on its own, and nobody was looking at the group as a whole.
What we did
We moved tax from something reported after the year to something planned during it. In the months before 30 June we worked through the group entity by entity: where profit was landing, how the owners were being paid, what the trusts could distribute and to whom, which assets could be brought forward, and what the super position looked like. Each decision was made with the full group in view rather than one return at a time.
Behind it sat monthly reporting, so the numbers we planned against were real and current, not a year-end surprise.
The result
More than $150K in tax saved in the first year, every dollar of it through ordinary, defensible strategies that the previous accountant had never raised. The owners now know their tax position before the year closes, not after it.
The lesson: once 30 June has passed, almost every option is gone. Planning done in May is worth more than any amount of explaining in October.
The services behind it
